| The Iron Man, in remembrance of ideals.
In 1980, Poland suffered from a major economical crisis. The shipyards of Gdansk went on strike. Several claims were then expressed. The first one being the creation of an independent self-governing trade union, called Solidarity.
Taking advantage of this democratic opening period, the Polish Film Maker, Andrzej Wajda paid visit to the shipyards and then, from a worker's demand, decided to produce the film Iron Man. This film will become the symbol of this struggle for the values of justice and/or solidarity.
